Cherry Tree Endowment

The spectacular blooms of the 3,000 magnificent Japanese flowering cherry trees around the Tidal Basin draw over one million visitors to the National Mall annually and serve as an enduring symbol of the friendship between the peoples of the United States and Japan.
Our Tidal Basin pathways are narrow and the infrastructure cannot support the current volume of millions of visitors. The Basin’s crumbling walls are breached with each tide, exposing the cherry blossom trees to harmful salt water. This harmful exposure gives our trees an attrition rate of double than normal.
Our nation’s capital would not have the beauty of the Japanese flowering cherry trees without the support of
private citizens and corporations who pushed for their planting helped fund their maintenance over the last century. Now the Trust for the National Mall is working to ensure the trees' maintenance and care in perpetuity. As the official non-profit partner of the National Park Service for restoring and preserving the National Mall, we are proud to protect these trees for generations to come.
Please support and protect the Cherry Trees. Each year 90 cherry trees need to be replaced on the National Mall. The replacement cost per tree is $600, and your gift of $15, $50, $100 or more will go a long way to help us to continue to preserve these national treasures.

Donations to the Trust for the National Mall, a 501(c)(3) charity, are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
