The Turkish public prosecutor’s office opened a total of 33,973 investigations in 2021 for insulting the president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to data from the Statistical Yearbook of the Judiciary.

“The number of investigations was 184 the year Erdogan was elected (as president, in 2014), which means that the investigations have multiplied by 185 in seven years”, explains the BirGun newspaper on Thursday, citing judicial data.
