UN Secretary-General António Guterres said on Friday he was “deeply concerned” for the safety of the Haitian people, especially the most vulnerable, in a situation where street protests, lack of supplies and the arrival of a hurricane which should hit the country next Monday.

In a scenario of widespread civil unrest and roadblocks, António Guterres called on everyone “for calm and the greatest possible moderation”, as well as to avoid violence and “allow the national police to fulfill their mandate of protection of the population”.
