The Kings of Spain, Felipe VI and Letizia, were seated next to the emeritus, Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía, during the funeral of Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey, London, the first joint image of the four since 2020.

Presidents, kings, princes, prime ministers, ambassadors and special guests also attended the funeral to pay their respects to Elizabeth II, who reigned for seventy years.

As reported by the Spanish Royal Household, Felipe VI will take part in the religious ceremony today preceding the burial of Queen Elizabeth II in the Chapel of San Jorge, Windsor Castle.

The coffin with the remains of Elizabeth II will arrive at 3:00 p.m. (2:00 p.m. GMT) in the vicinity of Windsor Castle, and an hour later it will enter St. George’s Chapel, where some 800 guests are attending a religious ceremony. ceremony presided over by the Dean of Windsor, David Conney.

At the end of the service, the coffin will be transferred to the royal crypt in the chapel, where the remains of Prince Philip, the Queen’s husband, who died in 2021 aged 99, are also buried.

There, at 7:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. GMT), Elizabeth II will be buried alongside Prince Philip in a private ceremony attended by members of the royal family. The marble slab of her tomb will be engraved with the words: “Elizabeth II 1926-2022”.

Spain’s King Felipe VI will take part in the religious ceremony ahead of Queen Elizabeth II’s burial in the Chapel of San Jorge, Windsor, the Spanish Royal House has reported.

Don Felipe accepted the invitation made by King Carlos III to the royal houses to participate in this religious service, which will take place on Monday afternoon and is more intimate than the state funeral which takes place at Westminster Abbey.

Queen Sofia will accompany the King, while Queen Letizia will not be able to attend as she has to take a regular flight to New York. King Emeritus Juan Carlos for his part declined the invitation, according to the same source.
