London, Sept 19 (EFE).- The gates of Westminster Abbey in London opened at 8:00 a.m. local time (07:00 GMT) on Monday for the arrival of the more than 2,000 guests attending the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, who died aged 96 after more than seven decades on the throne of the United Kingdom.

More than 500 heads of state and world leaders are attending the religious ceremony, which will begin at 11 a.m. local time (1000 GMT).

President of the United States Joe Biden, Emperor of Japan Naruhito, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, President of India Draupadi Murmu, Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, are among the attendees.

Some 2,300 police officers will guard Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin on her final journey from Westminster Abbey, where her state funeral will be held, to Windsor Castle, where she will be buried in St George’s Chapel.

Thousands of people have already packed into London and Windsor to see Elizabeth II’s funeral procession up close at the state funeral.

Along the streets through which the procession will pass, thousands of people, many carrying British flags, have spent the night occupying the best place to see the coffin pass, carried on a gun carriage, and which will be accompanied by several members of the royal family, with King Carlos III at its head.

With coats, hats and scarves, due to the cold of the night and the morning, the British and also the tourists await the beginning of the national funeral – at 11:00 local time (10:00 GMT) -.
