Madrid, Sep 21 (EFE).- The first vice-president, Nadia Calviño, assured that the government continues to work to improve the situation of many families who, in recent months, have seen the cost of their mortgages increase due to rate hike by the European Central Bank.

This was indicated by the Minister of Economic Affairs also this Wednesday, during the government control session in Congress, in response to a question from Ciudadanos on the economic measures that she is going to implement to help families. pay mortgages before interest rates rise on top of inflation.

Meetings with the financial sector

Calviño said meetings were being held these days with the financial sector to see “how we can continue to advance and deepen support for families who may have difficulty paying the mortgage”, and was willing to listen to proposals and analyze ideas.

“We are determined to continue supporting the citizens of this country and to face the challenges that come from outside Spain in the best possible way,” added the vice-president.

For her part, the leader of Ciudadanos, Inés Arrimadas, proposed “to approve an extraordinary tax reduction to compensate for this enormous increase that families are suffering”.

In this sense, he recognized that the government is not responsible for monetary policy, but “it is to help families cushion this huge increase in mortgages”.
