Bilbao, September 22 (EFE).- The geographer, writer and mountaineer Eduardo Martínez de Pisón will receive the WOP Foundation award, which recognizes the defense of mountaineering values, during the fifteenth edition of the BBK Mendi Film Bilbao- Bizkaia which will be held from December 9 to 18 in the Vizcaya capital.

“It is an honor for us to recognize Eduardo Martínez de Pisón, a lover of nature and above all of the mountains. A scholarly, transcendent and committed infatuation with the responsibility he feels for her and in which he recognizes himself, “they stand out from the WOP Foundation, a social enterprise that fights against neurodegenerative diseases.

Geographer and expert in glaciology, intellectual and scientist, writer and broadcaster, Martínez de Pisón received the National Prize for the Environment (1991) and most of his research, publications, teaching and thesis direction have revolved around physical geography. .

In this field, the man from Valladolid was a professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid from 1981 to 2007. From that year he began to teach as Professor Emeritus of Geography at the same university.

He also chaired the Spanish committee of the Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research, was director of the Sierra de Guadarrama Natural Resources Management Plan and since 1998 he has been director of the Landscape Institute of the Duques de Soria Foundation. .
