Santander, September 23 (EFE).- The Cantabrian Forest Firefighting Operation continues to work this Friday to put out the Polaciones fire, with the help of an amphibious plane from the Ministry of Ecological Transition because these are areas of difficult access and of high value, and that of Sejos, which also concentrated the efforts of the brigades yesterday, was considered to be under control.
To stabilize the Polaciones fire, the Group 43 amphibious plane coordinated by the Ministry of Ecological Transition is currently in operation; a group of forest firefighters, equipped with a fire truck; Agents of the Natural Environment of the Ministry of the Environment; and the Léon Forest Fire Reinforcement Brigade (BRIF).
The Cantabrian executive also reports that three new fires have been started in the last hours in Arenas de Iguña, Herrerías and Voto, although the first two are extinguished and that of Voto is under control.
In the Sejos, also controlled, agents of the Natural Environment work in collaboration with a squad of forest firefighters equipped with a fire truck.
So far in September, 46 forest fires have been recorded in Cantabria, of which only the fires of Polaciones, Sejos and Voto remain active.
The level 2 alert for forest fires remains active in the 13 forest regions, in addition to maintaining the ban on burning throughout the autonomous community.
The Government of Cantabria recalls that burning is prohibited and asks “to put an end to the social complicity that protects the arsonists, whose acts cause serious environmental and economic damage and pose a risk to public health and the lives of people”.
For this reason, he calls on citizens to identify these people, avoid risky practices and collaborate with the authorities to report any sign of fire, by contacting 112, the Ministry of Rural Development or the Civil Guard.
