Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE).- The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands declared this Friday the maximum alert from 00:00 a.m. on Saturday, due to rain throughout the Autonomous Community, due due to the fact that in the south of the archipelago a large area of showers and thunderstorms occurs.
Conditions are expected to be favorable for the development of a tropical depression and this process is expected to initially affect the western (southwestern) area of the autonomous community from Saturday, extending through the weekend into the entire archipelago.
Generalized precipitation is also expected in the form of showers, which can be of moderate intensity, not excluding that they are locally heavy or very heavy and it is also not excluded that there are accumulations of rainfall equal to or greater than 60-100 liters per square meter in 24 hours.
The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies does not rule out that there are thunderstorms with showers or showers that produce frequent heavy precipitation and of short duration.
In view of these forecasts, it recommends that citizens pay attention to weather forecasts and the authorities’ recommendations in this regard, and to check the condition of roofs, flat roofs and water canisters, as well as sewers and downspouts, and that, although the sky is clear, do not park your vehicle in the bed of the ravines.
He also recommends having flashlights and candles ready, as well as camping-gas stoves in anticipation of a lack of electricity, drinking water, medicine and a battery-operated radio, as well as to close and secure windows and doors to prevent water from entering.
Other recommendations are not to hike or camp until normality is restored and to avoid travel. ECE
