Students at the Harling Link Charter School will have the opportunity to hear the opinions of astronauts on the International Space Station this week. The Earthtospace call will be broadcast live at 12:40pm. Friday, July 9, US Eastern Time, on NASA TV, NASA apps, and the agency’s website.
NASA astronaut Shane Kimbrough and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Akihiko Hoshide will answer pre-recorded video questions from students and alumni of Harlem Link Charter School in New York City. Harlem Link is a charter school from kindergarten to fifth grade that has been providing student-centered courses for Harlem families since 2005. Harlem Link recruits students from all five boroughs of New York, maintains an active alumni network, and continues to recruit new students throughout the school year to better serve families facing difficult situations, such as unstable housing or special education services.

directly connects students with astronauts on the space station, providing a unique and authentic experience, and aims to improve students’ learning, performance, and interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Astronauts living in the space of the orbiting laboratory communicate with NASA’s mission control center in Houston through the data relay and tracking satellites of the space network 24 hours a day.
For more than 20 years, astronauts have been living and working on the space station, testing technology, conducting science, and developing the necessary skills to explore the farther earth. Through NASAs Artemis program, the agency will send the first woman and the first person of color to the surface of the moon, and eventually expand human exploration to Mars. Inspire the next generation of explorers, the Artemis generation, to ensure that the United States will continue to lead space exploration and discovery.
