A lot has changed since opening night when the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls meet for the first time. While Detroit has remained an Eastern Conference bottom-dweller, Chicago has exceeded expectations, emerged as a true contender and is current atop the Eastern Conference standings.

A 9-30 record is indicative of Detroit’s play to this point of the season, but fresh off a victory over the Utah Jazz, the 2022 Detroit Pistons currently hold a 4-2 record. Although the odds aren’t in Detroit’s favour, they seem to be in the midst of a their best stretch of basketball and should not be counted out of tonight’s game in Chicago.


Game preview: Maybe the Pistons have a way with the NBA’s elite. Last week, they knocked off the defending champion Bucks in Milwaukee. On Monday, they toppled the Jazz at home, 126-116. What’s in store for one of the surprise teams of the NBA, the Bulls? Chicago is led by the top scoring duo in the NBA: DeMar DeRozan (26.4 points per game; seventh in NBA) and Zach LaVine (26.2; eighth).

BOTTOM LINE: Chicago will try to keep its eight-game home win streak alive when the Bulls take on Detroit.

The Bulls are 4-2 against the rest of their division. Chicago averages 110.9 points and has outscored opponents by 3.3 points per game.

The Pistons are 2-6 against the rest of the division. Detroit is 3-16 when it wins the turnover battle and averages 14.4 turnovers per game.

The teams square off for the third time this season. The Bulls won the last meeting on Oct. 24, with DeMar DeRozan scoring 21 points points in the victory.

TOP PERFORMERS: DeRozan is scoring 26.4 points per game with 5.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists for the Bulls. Zach LaVine is averaging 26.6 points and 3.9 assists over the last 10 games for Chicago.


Cade Cunningham is averaging 15.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.4 assists for the Pistons. Saddiq Bey is averaging 20.7 points over the last 10 games for Detroit.

LAST 10 GAMES: Bulls: 9-1, averaging 118.1 points, 41.7 rebounds, 25.0 assists, 8.0 steals and 4.5 blocks per game while shooting 49.7% from the field. Their opponents have averaged 112.6 points per game.

For the second time in the 2021-22 season, the Detroit Pistons have won consecutive games, but are tasked with taking on another one of the NBA’s top teams, as they head to the Windy City for another meeting with the Chicago Bulls.

Similar to a number of times throughout this season, Detroit fell behind in the opening half when they took on the Utah Jazz on Monday night. They trailed 35-21 after the first quarter, but shrunk the gap to 13 before halftime. Then, the Pistons exploded in the third quarter, outscoring the Jazz 40-23, and tacked on another 38 points in the final 12 minutes to come away with a 126-116 win.
