Only one more quarter stands between the Atlanta Hawks and the win they were favored to collect going into this night. Three quarters in and their offense has really been able to impose its will, dominating the Orlando Magic 96-73. Point guard Trae Young has led the way so far for Atlanta, as he has 23 points and four assists in addition to four rebounds.
The Hawks and Orlando both experienced trouble in their last games, but one is bound to make up for it today. At this point it looks like Atlanta might take this one, but there’s still plenty of time for a reversal of fortune.
After five games on the road, the Orlando Magic are heading back home. They will take on the Atlanta Hawks at 7 p.m. ET Wednesday at Amway Center after having had a few days off. Orlando has been on the wrong side of a one-way rivalry with Atlanta and is hoping to record their first win since Feb. 26 of last year.
The game between the Magic and the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday was not particularly close, with Orlando falling 106-94. Orlando was down 85-62 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. The top scorers for Orlando were point guard Cole Anthony (21 points) and small forward Franz Wagner (20 points).
Meanwhile, the Hawks were within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap on Monday as they fell 132-126 to the Houston Rockets. Atlanta was up 101-88 at the end of the third quarter but couldn’t hold on to the lead. One thing holding Atlanta back was the mediocre play of small forward Kevin Huerter, who did not have his best game: he finished with only five points on 2-for-10 shooting in his 33 minutes on the court.
Orlando is expected to lose this next one by 7.5. At 3-7 against the spread at home, they are no cash cow. That said, Atlanta isn’t so hot on the road, where they are 4-9.
Orlando is now 5-23 while the Hawks sit at 13-14. A pair of offensive stats to keep an eye on: The Magic have only been able to knock down 42.20% percent of their shots, which is the third lowest field goal percentage in the league. Atlanta’s offense has more to brag about, as they they rank fourth in the league when it comes to points per game, with 111.4 on average. So the cards are definitely stacked in their favor.
